Promotion of the Hindi Language and Culture

Since inception our members have always been actively involved in promotion of the Indian Language and Culture by participating in Music, Dance, Eisteddfods, Cultural shows and the various annual festivals.

Serving our Community

Sevā projects have always been a constant at our Organisation. From visits to old aged homes, to supporting abused women and children at shelters, our members, young and old, are always actively involved.

Currently we are involved in a monthly feeding project, where, cooked meals are packaged, and distributed to needy families in our community.

Engaging the Youth

We have a dynamic youth group who are ever willing to take on new projects for the betterment of the community and society at large.

  • Prior to the  Covid-19 lockdown, they co-ordinated a Winter Warmth Blanket drive.
  • During the lockdown they assisted with our grocery hamper distribution.
  • In 2022 our incredible youth group initiated a fundraising project for Pietermaritzburg SPCA, raising cash and collecting pet food and bedding.
  • In 2023, they raised funds, collected clothes and toys, and donated all of this to CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa) and Msunduzi Hospice.
  • They also participated in a Youth Day program on drug awareness, Cultural Day, and Diwali float procession, winning first prize.
  • Early in 2024 the PAS Youth group embarked on a project working tirelessly helping to raise funds for Baby Ahana Dhanuk's cancer treatment.

In 2024 alone, they have been involved in various activities such as Knitting classes, Hindi lessons, Hawan mantra classes, and Sewa projects, and have helped organise special events for Samaj and community members.

The Plessislaer Arya Samaj Youth Group actively participates in our monthly feeding project.

PAS Holi Celebration 2023/2024

Holi is a popular ancient Hindu festival, also known in the Northern Hemisphere as the Festival of Spring, the Festival of Colours or the Festival of Love. The festival celebrates the eternal and divine love of Radha Krishna. It also signifies the triumph of good over evil, as it celebrates the victory of Lord Vishnu as Narasimha Narayana over Hiranyakashipu. It originated and is predominantly celebrated in the Indian subcontinent but has also spread to other regions of Asia and parts of the Western world through the Indian diaspora.

With South Africa being known as the Rainbow Nation, the Holi festival has taken on a unique flavour. Events often include traditional Indian music and dance, vegetarian food, and of course, celebrating with coloured powder!

Overall, the Holi festival is celebrated in many different ways around the world, but it is always a joyful and colourful celebration of life.
